The Orchestration of Biomimetic Hormones

It is the natural biomimetic rhythm that is missing from most hormone replacement therapies which women in menopause are taking today to feel better, avoid hot flashes, and increase libido. People have become accustomed to talking about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for menopause.Questions about Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) began with the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). This study of more than 161,000 women was designed to identify the benefits and risks of using menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) to prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, breast and colorectal cancer, and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Many people, including some doctors, did not realize that the results of WHI Study dealt with women over 65 who were taking synthetic hormone replacement therapy using the drugs PremPro and Premarin only. The study was ended mid-stream in 2002 when WHI investigators found that the possible risks of this synthetic therapy exceeded the safety limits established at the beginning of the study. In fact, the term “bio-identical” has become a catch all phrase for anything that is not a synthetic hormone. Bio-identical hormone products are usually formulated from natural plant sources to match the chemical structure of hormones produced naturally by the human body. Technically, the […]

Did You Play Rich Man, Poor Man?

“Rich Man, Poor Man” was a game I played as a child. The first button on my clothes was rich man - the second was poor man. Buttons three through eleven were beggar man, thief, doctor, lawyer, Indian chief, soldier, sailor, tinker, tailor. My last button foretold who I would marry. The game hasn’t changed, but my definition of husband material has.

In spite of my buttons, however, I married a poor man - still in college. I remember when we had less than three dollars and John was trying to find a sitter for a visiting professor. I asked him if the sitter was going to get paid. Since we couldn’t stand being poor, I thought we could sit.
The next button was beggar man, which today could be a fundraiser. Registering my phone number with the National Do-Not-Call Registry eliminated calls from telemarketers, but non-profit organizations aren’t eliminated. Whenever I get a call asking for a donation, […]

Emotional Eating - Did Cinderella Have A Good Press Officer?

Cinderella was never one of my favourite fairy tales! Mainly because I have large feet and would never have fitted into that glass slipper. But also because I feel that if she were treated that badly by her sisters she should have left home and done something a bit more enterprising than sit in the cinders. She was obviously a girl who, once she got into the posh frock, simpered a lot, played on her looks and got the man. Of course being that petite, her bone mass would have been at risk of slow decline after the menopause, but the fairy story doesn’t go that far. And with a penchant for glass slippers, you can tell she’d cost the Prince a fortune in Manolo Blahniks. Not that I begrudge her the fantastic night out, I’m sure she worked hard and deserved it. But the story does seem to tell me that women with large feet a) can’t be nice and b) don’t get the prince.Feeling like the ugly sister is so unfair, but many of my clients tell me this is how they feel. They are all lovely. And it’s so easy to feel that loveliness only comes about if […]
